Alpina Superclass 1.2 VVT has received a NER = ZERO, but what does NER mean?
“The Normalized Emission Rate (NER) is calculated with the use of a formula set forth by the EPA. In the case of snowmobiles, that formula adds the hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emission figures. A rating of zero is the cleanest and 10 is the least clean… When you look at that hang tag, simply remember that a lower number means fewer HC and CO emissions come from the exhaust and the better the sled’s fuel economy will be.”
